Community Hope to Honor sanofi-aventis U.S.
Chairman Timothy Rothwell at October 15th Gala

Sparkle of Hope Charity Event to Aid Homeless Veterans and Individuals in Recovery from Mental Illness

Community Hope will honor Timothy Rothwell, Chairman of sanofi-aventis U.S., at its Sparkle of Hope Dinner Auction on Monday, October 15, 2007. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the Birchwood Manor in Whippany, New Jersey.

The annual charity event benefits Community Hope’s residential programs for hundreds of young adults and individuals in recovery from mental illness and substance abuse, including the nationally-recognized Hope for Veterans Program for homeless veterans. Proceeds from the 2007 event will help fund a new wing at the veterans program; an initiative offering family support to those returning home after hospitalization and newly-opened programs on the former Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital campus.

Fred Hassan, Chairman and CEO of the Schering-Plough Corporation, who founded the charity event in 1997, reported that more than $400,000 has been raised thus far toward the goal of $550,000.

Joining Mr. Hassan in chairing this year’s gala are Alex Gorsky, Head of Pharma, North America and CEO of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation; David Norton, Company Group Chairman of Worldwide Commercial and Operations for Johnson & Johnson; Doug Rogers, President of Wyeth Consumer Healthcare; and Tony Zook, President and CEO of AstraZeneca North America.

Timothy Rothwell is being recognized for advancing the treatment of mental illness during his 35 year-career in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to leading sanofi-aventis U.S., he served as President and CEO of Sanofi-Synthelabo Inc., which he joined in May 2003. He formerly served in various capacities at Pharmacia Corporation, including as President of the company’s Global Prescription Business and as Executive Vice President. Prior to Pharmacia, Mr. Rothwell was worldwide President of Rhone-Poulenc Rorer Pharmaceuticals (RPR) and President of RPR’s Global Pharmaceutical Operations. Mr. Rothwell joined RPR in January 1995 as Executive Vice President, RPR, and President of Pharmaceutical Operations.

Carmela Lunt, Founder and President of Community Hope, reported that “growing support for the Sparkle of Hope charity event has enabled Community Hope to serve five times as many individuals since 2001.”

Lunt reported that the gala activities include a raffle drawing for vacation packages; a 50/50 cash raffle and a silent auction featuring original artwork and autographed sports memorabilia. In addition, guests can participate in a raffle for chances to win nearly fifty other prizes.

Community Hope is one of the largest residential programs for young adults, homeless veterans and individuals with mental illness in New Jersey. The nonprofit organization serves 250 individuals with residential programs under development to serve as many as 300 individuals in recovery by 2008.

Event sponsors help to make the Sparkle of Hope Dinner possible. The top-tier Presenting Sponsors are AstraZeneca; Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto; sanofi-aventis and the Schering-Plough Corporation and the Diamond Sponsors are the Celgene Corporation; Covington & Burling LLP; Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies; Lowenstein Sandler PC; Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation; and Wyeth.
