Community Hope Unveils “Bringing Veterans Home” Initiative to Address Veteran Homelessness
Parsippany, NJ – Community Hope, New Jersey’s leading non-profit dedicated to assisting homeless veterans and adults with mental health challenges, today announced the launch of its new “Bringing Veterans Home” (BVH) program, in collaboration with the New Jersey Department of Consumer Affairs. Governor Phil Murphy officially unveiled the statewide initiative today in Sea Girt, NJ.
The “Bringing Veterans Home” program is designed to achieve two key goals: first, to achieve an “effective end” to veteran homelessness by ensuring that the number of BVH-eligible persons experiencing homelessness can be routinely housed within 30 days. The second objective is to make veteran homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring through temporary and permanent homelessness system enhancements to ensure that all veterans experiencing homelessness in New Jersey have a dedicated pipeline to permanent housing.
Carmine Deo, Chief Executive Officer of Community Hope, shared, “We are proud to launch this vital program, which allows us to extend and expand our ongoing efforts to support homeless veterans. Since 2004, we have partnered with the VA to provide housing and support services to homeless veterans. With Bringing Veterans Home, and in collaboration with New Jersey’s Department of Community Affairs, we can now offer assistance to more veterans—especially those who may not have qualified for federal aid. Ending veteran homelessness is a critical issue nationwide, and locally. This program encompasses our mission of providing permanent, stable housing to service members, veterans, and National Guard members in need.”
Community Hope currently operates nine key programs in New Jersey which focus on housing and suicide prevention for service members, veterans, and their families. Additionally, the organization offers supportive housing for adults with mental illness, including 66 affordable supportive housing units. Since its founding in 1985, Community Hope has transformed the lives of thousands, offering the stability and support needed for a better future.
“When someone has hope, anything is possible,” Deo concluded. “We are honored to be part of this effort and proud to help New Jersey support our heroes and their families in their journey toward a better tomorrow.”
Community Hope, a NJ non-profit organization, provides housing and support services to thousands of veterans, veteran families, active military members and people living with mental illness each year. Since 1985, our team of over 170 employees has provided clinical case management, housing (emergency, transitional, and affordable), and homelessness prevention services enabling thousands to recover from mental illness, homelessness, substance use, and poverty.
